How Book Royalties Work

This is one of those basic topics about which you may be confused if you’re just entering the world of publishing. You’ve heard the terms advance and royalties but you’re not quite sure how it all works. I’ll try to explain as simply as possible.

The concept of a royalty is that the author receives a percentage of the revenue for each book sold. The exact percentage can’t be generalized because it depends on a variety of factors: the size of the publisher, whether it’s a CBA or ABA house, the author’s platform and saleability, and each publisher’s own criteria (of which you may never be aware).

A Feminism Fairy Tale

The wise maiden and the seven robbers

The Elves and the Shoemaker

The Elves and the Shoemaker

cover & illustrations by smarakoon pathiraja

There was once a shoemaker, who worked very hard and was very honest: but still he could not earn enough to live upon; and at last all he had in the world was gone, save just leather enough to make one pair of shoes.

Then he cut his leather out, all ready to make up the next day, meaning to rise early in the morning to his work. His conscience was clear and his heart light amidst all his troubles; so he went peaceably to bed, left all his cares to Heaven, and soon fell asleep. In the morning after he had said his prayers, he sat himself down to his work; when, to his great wonder, there stood the shoes all ready made, upon the table. The good man knew not what to say or think at such an odd thing happening. He looked at the workmanship; there was not one false stitch in the whole job; all was so neat and true, that it was quite a masterpiece.

The Princess on the Glass Hill

The Princess On The Glass Hill is a Norwegian Fairy Tale collected by Peter Christen Asbjørnsen and Jorgen Moe.
A farm had a field that would have been good for hay except that every St. John's night, all the grass was eaten. Two years, his oldest two sons stayed, but they were frightened off by an earthquake. The youngest waited through three earthquakes, and found the grass was eaten by a splendid horse, and by it was a brass suit of shining armor. He threw steel over it, which gave him power over it, so he rode it away to somewhere secret and told his brothers that nothing had happened to him. The next year, he did it again, though the armor was silver, and the next, when the suit was gold.

අලුත් පොත් - ඉගුරු පාන් ළමයා The ginger bread man - A fairy tale

අලුත් පොත් - ඉගුරු පාන් ළමයා The ginger bread man - A fairy tale

The Meaning of the Fairy Tale "The Ginger bread man"
Run, Run as fast as you can you can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man.
Of all the fairy tales the Gingerbread man is perhaps one of the oddest. After all what are we to make of parents who wish for a child and so make one of Gingerbread only to have it run way from them and everyone else it encounters except for the one thing it should run away from? The Gingerbread Man is a good example of how religion can be mixed into a fairy tale and than be forgotten to leave most people bewildered. To understand the Gingerbread Man’s fairy tale then we must begin with the religious aspect of the fairy tale.
